History of Bearing Heaters

Before Cone Mounter Bearing Heaters revolutionized the way that bearings are installed, an induction heater was the key piece of equipment used in all forms of induction heating.

The science behind induction heating was discovered as early as 1831, but it wasn’t until the early 20th century that engineers began examining ways to harness induction heaters for melting steel. By 1927, induction heaters were being used by manufacturers in England.

Meanwhile, engineers in America were attempting to use induction heaters to harden the cases of crankshafts. With the arrival of World War II, induction heating technology was stepped up and induction heaters were used for bearing installation in military vehicles and munitions. Over time, the technology advanced and induction heaters in the 3 to 10 kHz frequency range became common in induction forging and large induction hardening applications.

Proper bearing installation is essential to the long life of rotating machines. While induction heaters have historically been the best method of ensuring correct bearing installation, there is now a new technology that makes induction heaters obsolete. This technology is the Cone Mounter system, and it is superior compared to induction heating for a variety of reasons.

Unlike induction heaters, Cone Mounter is flexible and designed to heat a wide range of bearings. Each portable Cone Mounter unit weighs 17 lbs or less, so no need to drag your bearings to your induction heater; now you can easily move the bearing heater close to the equipment being maintained.

Magnetization can be a tricky issue with induction heaters, but the Cone Mounter system is non-magnetizing. Resistance elements heat the unit, which in turn heats the bearing, preventing magnetization. The magnetization possible with some induction heaters can make bearing installation a tough job.

Cone Mounter is an affordable alternative to induction heaters. They are economically priced in consideration of the tight budgets often found in maintenance and repair operations. And the best feature of the Cone Mounter system (vs. induction heaters) is ease of use. Forget the complex manuals and training necessary to operate many induction heaters; Cone Mounter can be learned in minutes using our short instruction guide.

We’re so confident that you’re going to find Cone Mounter to be the most simple, reliable, superior alternative to induction heaters, that we offer a full one year warranty on all of our Cone Mounter bearing heaters. You’ll never need an induction heater again.
